Clare Short Visits Ice Energy

The Right Honourable Clare Short recently visited Ice Energy Heat Pumps to learn more about heat pump technology and its role in tackling fuel poverty.

The MPs visit to Ice Energy’s office in Eynsham, Oxfordshire, comes as the perpetual rise in fuel prices looks set to continue and has left many people unable to pay their heating bills, forcing it to the forefront of governmental concerns.

After her visit, Clare Short said,

“I’ve been very impressed at how Ice Energy is a real pioneer in the UK Heat Pump market and having looked at the detail I believe heat pumps are the missing solution to combat fuel poverty, high fuel prices and our Carbon Dioxide emissions.

It’s very frustrating that more people do not understand their benefits and I look forward to raising awareness of the technology.”

Heat Pumps use renewable solar energy stored in the garden to run central heating and hot water systems, replacing traditional fossil fuel boilers such as oil and gas. A recent trial by Harrogate Borough Council established that where £1,200 was previously spent on solid fuel, this was down to just £215 with a Ground Source Heat Pump. In addition to reducing the running costs of their heating system, heat pumps offer homeowners, tenants, social housing providers and developers a means to reduce their carbon emissions.

Andrew Sheldon, Managing Director of Ice Energy says,

“We are very pleased Clare Short chose to visit our company. Ice Energy is committed to investing in renewable energy technologies and with the Government’s support we can make the public increasingly aware of the heating solutions available to them.

Heat Pumps can make a real difference to the way people live, and we are pleased to have had the opportunity to discuss this with Ms Short.”
