Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Systems from Ice Energy
Ice Energy offers the complete service for solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. Through our experience with heat pumps within the renewables industry and our work on a number of whole house renewable energy products targeting zero carbon, we have acquired the product knowledge and design expertise required to offer a concept-to-commissioning service on solar PV panel systems.
We have partnered with a market leading solar installation company to offer a fully MCS accredited service which will ensure optimum performance, operational longevity and access to the feed-in-tariff.

THE PRODUCT
Sharp Electronics has been in the
solar PV business for over 50 years and have a reputation for producing panels with proven performance and reliability. We believe that everyone who invests in a Solar PV system should benefit from a high quality module, especially in a market full of new entrants with no historical proof of performance.
The high efficiency of the polycrystalline Sharp modules means each kW of system occupies a relatively small roof area and that more power can be fitted into a smaller space optimising the electricity generation and resultant feed-in-tariff payments.
Sharp modules come with a 25 year performance warranty as standard and unlike many of the cheaper modules which have flooded the market, are manufactured in the UK. They are also fully accredited in accordance with the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) and have been independently tested and recommended to us by OST Energy, global experts in solar PV technology.
The FEED-IN TARIFF
Owners of solar PV systems are rewarded for every unit of electricity they generate via the Government Feed-in-Tariff which also pays an additional amount for every unit which is exported to the National Grid. What’s more, these payments are tax-free, index-linked and guaranteed by the Government for 25 years.
There is currently an ongoing period of consultation concerning proposals to reduce the amounts paid via the tariff and these details are listed below:
| Scale (per system) | Proposed Tariff Level For New Installations |
| Up to 4kW (retrofit) | 21p
|
| Up to 4kW (new build) | 21p
|
| 4 – 10kW | 16.8p |
A decision on the proposals is expected in December 2011.
BENEFITS
Despite the proposed cuts to the feed-in-tariff there remain significant benefits to installing a solar PV system. In addition to the carbon savings and reduced energy bills, the return on investment (ROI) for your PV system could provide a substantial financial benefit and in many cases could be a far better investment than putting money in the bank or high risk investment vehicles.
The table below demonstrates what rate of return you could expect from a solar PV system from Ice Energy:
| # Panels | kWp | Price | Price / kWp | kWh | Annual Benefit | ROI* |
| 8 | 1.96 | £8,082 | £4,123 | 1684 | £480.68 | 5.95% |
| 10 | 2.45 | £9,068 | £3,701 | 2105 | £600.85 | 6.63% |
| 12 | 2.94 | £10,416 | £3,543 | 2525 | £721.02 | 6.92% |
| 14 | 3.43 | £11,345 | £3,308 | 2946 | £841.19 | 7.41% |
| 16 | 3.92 | £12,276 | £3,132 | 3367 | £961.36 | 7.83% |
*Return on Investment (please note the cost of the product needs to be recovered before financial gains are made).
With energy rates rising at an increasing rate (the average rate of increase for the past decade has been 7% per annum) and increasing fears over our security of supply, by investing in renewable energy technologies you can future-proof your supply.
HOW IT WORKS
A photovoltaic system works by converting light into electricity. The PV array is connected to the consumer unit or distribution board supplying electricity to your home or building.
The electricity produced is monitored by an OFGEM accredited PV meter which is located between the PV array and the consumer unit or distribution board.

INSTALLATION
Ice Energy provides full installation as part of our solar PV proposition via an installation partner who has been installing solar thermal and solar PV systems for over seven years. This experience is reflected in our ability to offer full MCS accreditation for the installation of our solar PV systems which is important in securing eligibility for permitted development rights and the feed-in-tariff.
APPLICATIONS
Our solar PV systems can be retro-fitted onto an existing roof or integrated into new build and roof renovation projects. We can also provide systems suitable for ground level or flat roof applications using aluminium mounting frames.
Systems are normally connected to the National Grid but can be standalone or off-grid design.
We are able to offer a full design, supply and installation service for both residential and commercial buildings.
