What prompted you to investigate air source heat pumps?
"We wanted to design, commission and install an eco-friendly heating system within our new property and were looking for something modern and efficient and not just another gas-fuelled boiler.

"The cost of installing a gas supply pipe therefore narrowed down our choice to electricity and hence to an air source heat pump."

How did you find the installation process?
"The installation process was OK - we chose our own contractors to install our air source heat pump while Ice Energy supplied the heat pump and all of the components in a very short space of time."

What has it been like living with an air source heat pump?
"Very straight forward. You just turn the air source heat pump on, set the room thermostats to the temperature required and simply leave everything switched on."

What would you say are the benefits of air source heat pumps?
"Our basic requirement was to install a modern heating system that was not directly based on fossil fuels. As the build was completely 'off-grid', we had huge expense installing electricity and water and had no intention of increasing that expense to install gas or oil tanks.

"Electricity can be generated from a number of sources, some fossil based, others not, but with gas there is no choice. The fact that government grants are available made the decision even more of a no-brainer as far as we were concerned.

"We wanted to build our house with very high insulation levels and then install a modern heating system which would do justice to the design. Air source heat pumps seemed an obvious way to go being clean, simple and with minimal maintenance costs.

"Our experience so far with the energy bills after 12 months is in line with our expectations. Yes, the electricity bill is higher than normal, but with no gas usage or standing charges to pay, we are paying less than in our previous house which had gas central heating."

Why did you choose Ice Energy to supply your air source heat pump?
"There were a number of factors. We made contact with other owners of air source heat pumps to seek their input and advice. We also put out tenders to a number of companies.

"Ice Energy were good on price, but could also offer the equipment and technical advice that we needed as part of a self-build project.

"We especially liked the fact that Ice Energy could design both the air source heat pump system and the underfloor heating system together as part of a bundled package. Dealing with one supplier rather than two was in our minds a big advantage."

What has the service been like from Ice Energy?
"Very good, especially the pre-sales experience when I requested an order to lead time of just a few weeks. This was handled extremely well with all the equipment arriving together and far quicker than we were quoted by other companies.

"When undertaking a self-build project there are so many things to manage that you really do need to work with people and companies who are willing to help you achieve your objectives.

"We found that Ice Energy were always willing to help us out, both before and after placing an order with them."

"Yes, absolutely no complaints here."
