Robert Christoforides lives in a 5-bedroom, detached property in Hampshire. Built in 1750, the property is Grade III listed and in June 2009, as part of his desire for a renewable energy home, Robert installed an air source heat pump from Ice Energy. Read on to learn more of Robert's experiences.
What prompted you to investigate air source heat pumps?
"I had already installed photovoltaic cells and wanted to complete as far as possible my renewable energy system for my home due to the fear of greatly increased energy costs in the future.
After an online search of heat pump companies I judged Ice Energy to be the best for me."
How did you find the installation process?
"The installation which required planning permission, was excellent and only took a couple of days to complete."
How have you found living with air source heat pumps?
"The system runs itself without any servicing so far being required. I just adjust the thermostat when I want to."
What would you say are the benefits of air source heat pumps?
"For me the benefits are the fact that little or no servicing is required, the great savings which can be made and the peace of mind the air source heat pump affords me when I see the huge increases in gas prices."
Has your air source heat pump reduced your running costs?
"I have no specific examples of the cost savings but I have used no gas or direct electricity heating at any time since my heat pump was installed. I believe my savings must be approximately 75% but this has not been mathematically calculated."
What has the service been like from Ice Energy and would you recommend them to others?
"The service has been excellent throughout and I would definitely recommend Ice Energy products and services to others considering this technology.
For me, the combination of photovoltaic cells and ground or air source heat pumps is without a doubt the future for domestic energy."
