In the past decade, Ice Energy has supplied almost 10,000 heat pumps to locations across the UK. While a large proportion of people have heard of renewable energy products like solar photovoltaic (solar PV) panels as a result of widespread press coverage, less people have heard of heat pumps or understand the advantages of heat pumps however, Ice Energy are helping to change all that.

What are Heat Pumps?

There are many heat pump misconceptions but essentially, heat pumps are renewable energy products which can provide you with a total heating and hot water solution for your home or business. Heat pumps use small amounts of energy collected from the ground or air to transfer heat from one location to another. As the renewable energy extracted is free, the only cost incurred when collecting energy for heat pumps is the electricity required to run them.

Benefits of Heat Pumps

There are many benefits to installing heat pumps including:

  • Reduced running costs
  • Total heating and hot water solution
  • Eligibility for the Renewable Heat Incentive
  • Require minimal maintenance
  • No fuel delivery or storage issues
  • Safer for you and your family
  • Better for the environment

Is my home suitable for a Heat Pump?

Ice Energy have installed heat pumps in a variety of properties as you will see from visiting our heat pump case studies page. There are many factors which need to be considered such as the amount of ground available (if considering ground source heat pumps), how well insulated your property is, whether yours is a new build property or are you replacing an existing system, and the fuel type you are replacing for example.

In the vast majority of cases heat pumps can be easily installed, whether on a new build or retrofit basis to provide reliable, comfortable heating for years to come. However, it's important to ensure theses issues are covered in your early discussions so that the correct system is specified for your specific project.

Funding for Heat Pumps

As an owner of a heat pump, you can benefit from a series of payments via the government's Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme. The RHI provides tax-free, index-linked payments for seven years which are issued quarterly to your bank account. These payments are intended to help recoup the initial installation costs but in many cases they also provide a generous return on top.

The amount of income you can receive from the RHI will vary depending on the type of heat pump installed and the amount of renewable heat the system generates. Any heat pump quotation from Ice Energy will illustrate the level of RHI payments you will receive as well as the cost savings compared to your existing fuel type (where applicable), giving you a complete picture of  what to expect from the outset.

Heat Pumps - Our history and experience

As one of the earliest advocates of heat pumps in the UK, we believe that the many advantages of heat pumps compared to dangerous and expensive fossil fuels such as oil and gas, make them the renewable energy heating systems of the future.

To support this belief we have established one of the largest directly employed forces of trained, experienced heat pump engineers covering the whole of the UK, to provide help and support 365 days a year ensuring your complete peace of mind.

Ice Energy has extensive experience in the design, specification and supply of both ground source heat pumps and air source heat pumps across a range of properties for Homeowners, Social Housing providers, Developers and Commercial Projects having installed more heat pumps than all our competitors combined. It is this level of experience that will provide you with complete confidence when considering heat pumps for your home or project.

Our aim is to provide you with a heating system which uses heat pumps to offer significant savings and best value for money.

We can also advise you on the latest renewable energy grants available and how to access them.
