Technical Support - General FAQ
We have collated some of the most frequently asked questions received by our Technical Team to help you in the unlikely event of a problem occurring with your heat pump. We will continue to update this page on an ongoing basis but if you are unable to find an answer to your particular query at this time, please call the Technical Team on 01865 882202 (choosing option 3). Alternatively, you can request a call back by completing the form on the right of this page.
What is the commissioning valve?
The commissioning valve is a valve that sits on the opposite pipe from the filling set. Its purpose is to allow the engineers to circulate the glycol around the ground loop without sending it through the heat pump. This filters any dirt in the loops into the engineers bin rather than the heat pump unit.
How often should I clean the filters?
We recommend that filters should be cleaned annually, although this should also be done in the event of a High Pressure (HP) or Low Pressure (LP) alarm or high HTF delta alarm. Ice Energy can arrange to do this for you for a service charge.
Should I turn the heat pump off when I go away?
As the heat pump constantly monitors the water temperature in the heating and hot water systems we would suggest you leave the heat pump on. Turning the system off while you are away can use more energy when the system is turned back on. You can reduce the temperature by a couple of degrees but we would refrain from turning the system off entirely.
Can I see how much energy the heat pump is using?
This can be done using the energy readings from the heat pump, although these readings only take into account the compressor and immersion. We would suggest purchasing and installing an electric meter to wire into the supply to the heat pump. This in turn will measure in units everything connected to the heat pump, as well as the compressor and immersion. To get the cost you simply multiply the units by the cost per unit you pay. This will give you a total cost. The meters can be purchased from our logistics department.
